PROACTIVE
Proactive can defines as action and result oriented behavior, instead of the one that waits for things to happen and then
tries to adjust (react) to them. Proactive behavior aims at identification and exploitation of opportunities and in taking preemptory action against potential problems and threats, whereas reactive behavior focuses on fighting a fire or solving a problem after it occurs. Proactive also means creating
or controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding
to it after it has happened. This is a vital skill in the entrepreneur world.
“In an entrepreneurial sense, this means
that if you have a proactive personality you firmly believe that you control
the fate of your business,” an Inc.com article noted. So, proactive is a
very important traits for entrepreneurs to success their business.
The advantages of being proactive is proactive organizations are a step
ahead of the game. Rather than wait for circumstances to dictate their actions,
they change long before risks materialize. Competitors find it difficult to
keep up because proactive organizations undergo continuous self-improvement
even during good times, when other organizations might rest on their laurels. Cost-effective also
is the advantage of proactive.
By honing their performance to increase productivity and efficiency and by
dealing with small problems before they develop into bigger problems, they save
money that can be used to lower their prices, further increasing their
competitiveness.
Entrepreneur who is fulfilling proactive is Tan Sri Dato' Loh Boon Siew. Tan Sri Dato’ Loh Boon Siew (1915–1995)
also known as “Mr Honda”, was a Penangite tycoon and
the first sole distributor of Honda motorcycles in Malaysia. He is an
illiterate and cannot read. Although he cannot write or read, but memory Tan Sri is very good and he often relies on his memory and
judgment in making any decision. In addition, he was also a visionary who
always go out and be able to anticipate and prepare. This is the key to success
today.
In
1958, Boon Siew noticed the popularity of the Honda
Super Cub motorbike which had been just introduced in Japan. He
believed that this low-cost, high-efficiency machine would find a similarly
receptive market in the rapidly urbanizing areas of Malaysia. Then he took
proactive to meet with Mr. Soichiro
Honda, the bike's creator due to order the motorbike. Because of his
proactive, he can set up a Honda subsidiary in Malaysia. Hence, , it can be concluded as Tan Sri Dato’Loh Boon Siew was taking proactive to bring in the Honda motorbike to Malaysia
and become the most famous brands of vehicles in Malaysia.
